Treatment Philosophy
As a woman of a certain age, I am particularly interested in helping women navigate the middle years, the life stage between kids, empty nesting and beyond. This can be an especially fraught chapter, with multiple stressors: teens, marital crises, menopause and aging parents to name just a few. It can also be a time of freedom, renewal and new beginnings. I enjoy supporting women through this time of remarkable change and growth.
My therapy style is engaged and interactive. I won’t just sit there and say “Uh-huh”! I will work with you to address the problems that brought you in and explore (in the words of the Talking Heads): “How did I get here?” We will shine the light on experiences that may have contributed to your current struggles and help you understand how the coping strategies that once served you may now be creating their own set of problems.
My goal is not to get you stuck in the past but rather to help you connect the dots from past to present. In doing so, you will develop a more nuanced and self-compassionate narrative of your life, your relationships, your strengths and your struggles. This perspective shift can be both energizing and empowering. You’re invited to read my blog about parenting, grief, healing from eating problems, sexual abuse, and addiction.

I enjoy presenting to groups on issues related to food issues, media pressures, healthy parenting, body image and emotional eating.
