1. Do you accept insurance?

Yes, many of our providers accept insurance, while others are private pay only. You can browse our providers by insurance company, or inquire directly with a specific therapist. If you’re using out-of-network benefits, we’re happy to provide a superbill for possible reimbursement through your insurance plan. Our office also often can accept HSA/FSA funds to cover services.

2. What if I don’t know which provider to choose?

No problem—we’re here to help! If you’re unsure where to start, simply click the “Request an Appointment” button on our homepage. A member of our admin team will review your information and help match you with a therapist who best fits your needs, preferences, and schedule.

3. How long are sessions?

Most therapy sessions are between 45 and 55 minutes, depending on your therapist and the nature of your treatment. Your provider will clarify the session length and structure during your initial visit. Length of assessment sessions vary by provider.

4. Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes! Many of our providers offer teletherapy sessions for clients who prefer to meet virtually. Just let us know when submitting your appointment request if you’re interested in online therapy.

5. What is the cost of therapy or assessment services?

Fees vary depending on the provider, type of service, and whether you’re using insurance. We encourage you to reach out to your chosen provider or our office directly for more information about specific rates and payment options. Each provider’s fee schedule is provided under their bio in the Provider Directory.

6. What ages do you work with?

We provide services for clients across the lifespan—from toddlers (as young as 12 months) through older adulthood. Our clinicians specialize in working with children, teens, adults, couples, and families.

7. What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?

We understand that schedules change. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify your therapist at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a late cancellation fee (for therapy).

Cancellation/reschedule policies for assessments vary by provider and type of assessment – please review all intake paperwork for more information. Your provider will give you the best way to reach them for any changes.

8. What happens during the first session?

For therapy, your first session is a chance to get to know each other. You’ll discuss what’s bringing you in, your goals for therapy, and any questions or concerns you may have. It’s a supportive, low-pressure conversation designed to help both you and your therapist determine the best path forward.

For assessment, your first session will include a review of background information, current strengths/areas for growth, goals for the assessment, and discussion of the plan for an individualized assessment.

9. Can I switch providers if it’s not a good fit?

Absolutely. We want you to feel comfortable and supported. If at any point you feel that a different therapist may be a better fit, we’ll help you make that transition with care and respect.

10. Do you prescribe medication?

Yes, we have a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner on our team who provides medication evaluations and ongoing medication management for eligible clients. If you’re interested in exploring medication as part of your care, we can help you get started.

11. Do you all keep information confidential?

Yes. Everything you share in therapy is kept confidential, with a few legal exceptions, such as concerns about safety or harm to yourself or others. Your therapist will review confidentiality policies with you during your first session so you feel fully informed.

12. Do you offer comprehensive assessments for children, teens, and adults?

Yes, we provide comprehensive psychological, neuropsychological, and psychoeducational assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. These assessments can help identify learning differences (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia), autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, anxiety/depression, Bipolar Disorder, and more. Our psychologists also conduct school observations and offer kindergarten/school readiness assessments. You can learn more on our Assessment Services page.

13. Who conducts the assessments?

All assessments at PFPA are conducted by licensed psychologists who specialize in diagnostic testing. Our team uses gold-standard, evidence-based tools and takes a collaborative, neurodiversity-affirming, and strengths-based approach.

14. How do I know what type of assessment my child or I may need?

You don’t need to figure that out alone. We’ll start with an intake or consultation to understand your concerns and goals. Your psychologist will then determine the most appropriate assessment battery for your specific situation.

15. What does the assessment process involve?

While the specific steps may vary slightly, most assessments include the following:
1. Intake appointment – clinical interview to gather background and clarify goals
2. Testing session(s) – in-person standardized tasks and behavioral observations
3. Scoring and analysis – integration of data from multiple sources
4. Feedback session – collaborative review of findings and next steps
5. Written report – provide a user-friendly summary with tailored recommendations

16. Can receiving an assessment at PFPA help someone apply for college or standardized testing accommodations?

Yes, if warranted after the assessment is conducted. Formal documentation is often required for accommodations on exams like the SAT, ACT, GRE, and in college settings. Our assessments meet these requirements.

17. Do you provide support after an assessment?

Yes. We offer school consultation, referral coordination, and follow-up services. We are well connected to community resources and enjoy helping families implement the recommendations. Further, several psychologists provide both assessment and therapy services, and they may be available for therapy after an assessment is completed.

18. Do you offer evening or weekend sessions?

A few of our therapists offer evening and/or weekend appointments, but most of our providers do not. Availability varies by provider, so feel free to inquire when submitting your appointment request or reach out to your preferred provider to learn more.
