Psychological Assessments: Psychological assessments explore overall emotional well-being, social functioning, and behavior across settings. These are often helpful when patterns of mood, anxiety, interpersonal challenges, and/or behavioral challenges are interfering with daily life. Psychologists at PFPA provide psychological assessments to help uncover root causes, clarify diagnoses, and offer practical recommendations for therapy, parenting, school support, or care coordination.

You might seek a psychological assessment if:

  • Your child is having frequent meltdowns, rigid behavior, or trouble calming down
  • Therapy hasn’t helped as expected, or past diagnoses don’t seem to tell the full story
  • A teen or adult is navigating chronic anxiety, sadness, irritability, or relational challenges
  • Social situations feel confusing, overwhelming, or isolating
  • You’re wondering if autism, ADHD, anxiety, OCD, or a mood disorder may be present

Neuropsychological Assessments: Neuropsychological assessments provide an in-depth look at how the brain is functioning. These assessments explore areas such as attention, processing speed, visuospatial skills, language, learning and memory, and executive functioning. They are especially helpful when there are concerns related to cognitive development, illness or injury that affects cognitive performance (like cancer, stroke, epilepsy, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), or long COVID), or age-related memory changes.

You might seek a neuropsychological assessment if:

  • Your child has a medical condition that may affect learning or development
  • You’ve noticed changes in memory, attention, or problem-solving
  • You or a loved one is recovering from an illness or injury (e.g., stroke, long COVID)
  • You need documentation for workplace, school, or disability accommodations
  • There’s a desire to track cognitive functioning over time

All assessments are conducted by licensed psychologists using evidence-based tools and a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming lens. Our team enjoys collaborating with families, providers (medical doctors and therapists), and schools to ensure that findings are clearly explained and translated into personalized recommendations. Every assessment includes a feedback session and a detailed written report.

If you’re wondering whether an assessment might be the right next step, we’re here to help. Our psychologists offer free consultations to discuss the process, answer questions, and share follow-up steps. We invite you to explore our provider directory  and contact us online  or via phone (770-953-4744 ext. 66) to learn more. We are happy to answer your questions and help you find someone who best fits your needs!
