As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist I believe in creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for adults and for children and their parents. My therapy style is interactive and engaging, but clients play a crucial role in their and/or their child’s treatment. Difficulties and concerns brought to treatment are addressed through a trusting collaborative relationship. Treatment can be on a short or long term basis depending on the client’s needs.
My approach is based on cognitive-behavioral theory (CBT). Essentially this means that people can gain insight into what brought them into therapy and make positive changes. The goal of therapy is to help clients identify, understand, challenge and change maladaptive and negative ways of thinking, feeling, acting and/or interacting with others; ultimately leading to increased functioning and a happier and healthier lifestyle. Some of the techniques used include, problem solving and coping skills training, social and communication skills training, self-esteem building, conflict resolution, parent support and education, stress management and relaxation skills, and play therapy.
